STEPS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT

To help you through the registration process, select the link below to download our newly created
"FHL iSportsman Start-Up Guide"

STEP 1.    Create Your iSportsman Account

If you created an iSportsman account previously do not create a new account. Use that account. If you do not have an iSportsman account then register for one by clicking the “My Account” tab in the blue bar above, select New User Registration, and complete the registration process.

STEP 2.    Clear ALL Holds (a.k.a., Validations) on Your Account

All customers are required to be cleared by FHL's Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) prior to being able to purchase a FHL Hunting or Fishing Permit.

2.1.   VETTING HOLD

FOR COMMON ACCESS CARD (CAC) AND DoD ISSUED ID CARD HOLDERS:

FOR NON-CAC CUSTOMERS:

  • If you do not possess a DoD Common Access Card, you MUST complete a new background check through the Visitor Control Center (VCC) annually. Your access approval expires when your hunting or fishing permit expires. That’s June 30 for hunting and December 31 for fishing.
  • Print the applicable Access Request Form (ARF), fill them out, sign them, and email the completed forms with a copy of an acceptable photo ID to the Visitor Control Center at: usarmy.hunterliggett.id-pacific.mbx.des-sec-and-acc-req@mail.mil. The forms may also be dropped off at the VCC during normal business hours.

  • Once you have successfully completed the background check, the VCC will notify you and the H&F Program by email, and the Vetting hold on your account will be removed by the H&F staff. This process can take up to 2 weeks.

2.2.   FHL H&F ORIENTATION BRIEF HOLD

  • EVERYONE MUST watch the "H&F Orientation Brief" which can be found under the "My Safety Briefs" tab in the blue bar of your account page. Note: If the video moves too quickly to read, you can pause it at any time.
  • After watching the video, answer the question that follows and click “DONE”.
  • Once submitted, this hold is removed. This is a one-time requirement but the briefing is still available for future viewing.

2.3.   FHL UNEXPLODED ORDINANCE (UXO) BRIEF HOLD

  • EVERYONE MUST watch the "UXO Brief", which can be found under the "My Safety Briefs" tab in the blue bar of your account page. Note: If the video moves too quickly to read, you can pause it at any time.
  • After watching the video, answer the question that follows and click “DONE”.
  • Once submitted, this hold is removed. This is a one-time requirement but is available for future viewing.

2.4.   CALIFORNIA HUNTING LICENSE HOLD (Hunters Only)

  • ANYYONE who wishes to purchase an FHL Hunting Permit MUST submit a copy by email of their "VALID" California Hunting License to the FHL Hunting & Fishing Program at: usarmy.hunterliggett.id-readiness.mbx.hunt-and-fish-program@mail.mil.
  • A “VALID” license has the same hunt year as the Hunting Permit being acquired. For example, a 2018-19 CA Hunting License for a 2018-19 FHL Hunting Permit.
  • Once the copy of your license is received, License Hold on your account will be removed by the H&F staff. This process can take up to 1 week.

Weapon Registration (Firearms Only)

  • Weapon Registration is not a Hold on your account, and does not prevent you from purchasing a FHL Hunting Permit.
  • However, ALL FIREARMS brought on FHL used for hunting MUST be registered with the Visitor Control Center (VCC). For instructions, select  "Weapon Registration" from the "Regs & Policies" tab above, or the button below. Archery equipment does NOT need to be registered.
  • Once your firearm is registered with FHL, your weapon's permit does not expire as long as you retain your vetted clearance.
  • You MUST pick up your weapon permit at the VCC, and keep a copy of it with you and your firearm at all time while hunting on FHL.
